Some level of contentment is crucial to mental health and self-improvement. While self-help tactics and tips focus on constant striving, there is a bigger picture to consider. You will never achieve holistic health and mental happiness without allowing yourself a bit of enjoyment. Learn to be content with things you cannot change (your family, last year’s earnings, etc.). Once you are satisfied with the permanent things in your life, you are ready to change the things you can control.
Use other people to help you further your personal development. It can be difficult to succeed on your own and other people can sometimes give you motivation and advice that you can’t give yourself. So, in order to achieve your life goals, make sure you enlist the support of your peers.
Listen to your own prayers when times get tough. Many people say a prayer asking for help or direction, but reflecting upon your prayers and listening to your own inner guide is just as important. We each have different personality facets that live within us, and often times, we already know the right answer but one part of us resists acknowledging it.

Your personal gauge should always be set to “optimize.” In other words, imagine your whole self — body, soul and mind as a singular, efficient machine. You’ll be more likely to hit your target on the mark if you know the direction you’re taking to get there is efficient and streamlines.
Take personal responsibility. No matter what has gone wrong in your life, take responsibility for your situation. Doing this takes you out of the victim role and lets you take charge of your life again. Nobody is holding you back except for yourself, so take your new found freedom and start making changes.
You need to accomplish at least one planned task a day if you want to feel productive. The task should not be a daunting one. It is important to choose a task that fits into the time that you have available rather than trying to squeeze something into a smaller time slot than is truly needed.
Time management is key to living a well-balanced life. There are always more things to do in a day than there is time for those things. You have to be selective and you have to be confident in choosing what to do with your time. Have goals, make plans and when the unexpected happens, embrace it if its something that makes you happy. You must practice time management.
Don’t rely simply on your memory for knowledge, invest in understanding things completely. You need to approach life and learning not only with the goal of understanding the ‘how’ and ‘what’, but also of understanding the ‘why’. When you begin to grasp why something occurred, you are are opening up a layer of knowledge that many people ignore.
To be on a path of personal development means not leaving things to chance. Don’t let yourself blame the universe for what happens. Take control of your life and you can choose what your life will be like. In every situation, you have the choice on how you will react, so make the right choice, starting today!
Keep your mind active. An inactive mind is a breeding ground for depression. Reading a book can help keep your mind active and at ease. Make sure to read books that are motivational and inspirational. You can also do crossword puzzles or anything that uses your mind in a positive way.
Never, ever give up. Personal development is an ongoing process that takes a lifetime, and the main variable is the point that you are at right this moment. When life throws you a curve ball, catch it and move on. Don’t ever quit, and you will always be moving forward.
Ways to help others are immense. Spending time with the elderly at a retirement home will fill the older folks with joy and appreciation for your time. Volunteering at an animal shelter will create a sense of importance and positivity. Even something as simple as donating non-perishable food to a drive is amazing because you are filling empty stomachs. Helping those who are less fortunate is a great way to work on yourself, while being an exceptional human being.
