Break big goals into little ones for personal development success. When you start setting goals, the goals you choose may seem unachievable. Do not let this slow you down! To reach a lofty, ultimate goal, you need stepping stones along the way. Identify smaller achievements that you can and should reach, in pursuit of your greater goal.

Sometimes we experience days where we have self doubt. If this is that day for you, find a clean sheet of paper and write positive thoughts on it. Such as, I wrote a great article this morning, the weather is beautiful today, or my commute to work was smooth, etc. Keep reading all of the positive thoughts until you are feeling better, you will find this works very quickly to improve your outlook and attitude.

When meeting someone new, try your best to make a good impression. It is said that people judge people they have just met within the first ten minutes of meeting them. In such a short amount of time, try to be yourself and show them how good of a person you are.

Set a new personal goal right now: do something that scares you in the near future. This doesn’t need to be huge, so don’t worry about overcoming a lifelong fear of spiders overnight. Simply choose a small risk, plan a date, and take it when the opportunity arises. You might find that your bravery pays off!

One major part of self development is learning to be humble. While being confident about your skills and expertise is wonderful, too much can stop further improvement in its tracks. Recognize that you can still make mistakes, and acknowledge what other people can do to enhance the knowledge you already have.

In order to build your self-confidence you should try new things that are somewhat difficult. When you realize that you are capable of doing so many different things well it can help you to feel the confidence to do anything that you put your mind to if you only try.

Find the areas in your life that you lack confidence the most. If you take the time to plan what areas you are lacking confidence in, you will find that it is easier to gain the confidence in those areas, rather than trying to gain overall confidence in all things in your life.

Find a mentor. One of the most powerful forms of learning is by mirroring best practices of those who are already where you want to be. Find someone that you want to emulate and study their lives. If it is realistic to approach this person, reach out to them and ask them for some one-on-one time. If you do get personal time with your mentor, come in prepared with relevant questions you want to ask. Otherwise, you will just be wasting your time and theirs.

If you are working hard towards becoming a more positive person, then it’s probably best to keep negative people out of your circle. Negative people just don’t seem to want to see anybody happy if they aren’t happy, so they will try to sabotage your progress towards being a joyful, positive person by trying to bring you down. The easiest way to stop this is to try to avoid them altogether.

If you find that you feel as if your life is missing something or need some kind of an outlet for stress, consider taking up a hobby. It will fill your time with something productive instead of worrying about the things in your life that you cannot fix. These hobbies can be just about anything that interests you.

Experience is the teacher, however, insight is the reward. You must learn from mistakes, failures and even successes to better understand how to succeed in the future. This foundation of experiences not only teaches, but will soon lead to insight of outcomes based on past successes. Being able to expect an outcome based on knowledge of past is much better than hoping.

Do something everyday that gives you pleasure. You can get caught up in your day-to-day responsibilities and go days without doing something that you truly enjoy. Start now, by making a list of the things that you really like to do and commit to finding time in doing them. You will be much better able to handle the rest of your life, if you know that you will also be enjoying yourself, part of the time.
